Their brief was to improve structural flow between the kitchen and family areas, upgrade insulation and flooring throughout, convert the conservatory into a usable all-year-round space, and install a new bathroom with updated drainage and heating systems. In addition, the property required a new boiler installation, internal reconfiguration upstairs, and comprehensive finishing works to ensure a seamless result.
The focus was not simply aesthetic improvement, but long-term performance — better insulation, improved heating efficiency, upgraded subfloors and durable finishes — all delivered in a coordinated programme of works.

Structural Alterations & Internal Reconfiguration in Petersfield
A significant portion of the project involved structural adjustments to improve the flow of the ground and first floors. Works included:
- Removal of the existing conservatory roof
- Formation of new openings between the cloakroom and conservatory
- Formation of a new opening between the kitchen and family room with precast concrete lintels
- Infill of redundant doorways
- Removal of a stud wall and creation of a new doorway upstairs
- Construction of new internal walls with acoustic insulation
- Adjustments to lobby areas and ceiling structures
- Installation of raised ceiling with MDF loft hatch
These alterations transformed compartmentalised rooms into a more cohesive and practical layout while maintaining structural integrity.
Conservatory Roof Conversion & Insulated Upgrade
The existing conservatory was thermally inefficient and underutilised. We converted the structure into a usable room by:
- Forming a cut roof structure
- Installing insulation and boarding to ceiling and skylight reveals
- Creating an upstand and installing a new rooflight
- Applying torch-on roofing and adjusting roof pitch
- Battening, insulating and boarding perimeter walls
- Adding new guttering
- Removing screed and levelling the floor
- Re-rendering external masonry and redecorating
The result is a fully insulated, year-round living space integrated into the main house.

Kitchen Structural Works, Levelling & Installation
The kitchen required complete strip-out and preparation works before installation:
- Removal of the existing kitchen and gas disconnection
- Structural opening to the family room
- Floor preparation including primer and levelling compound
- Latex levelling to adjoining areas
- Preparation for client-specified kitchen installation
Tiling works included 600 x 600 tiles supplied by Mandarin Stone, laid over a prepared and levelled substrate to achieve a flush threshold between spaces.
The works created a seamless transition between kitchen and family areas, reinforcing the open-plan design.

Floor Upgrades & Insulation Improvements
To improve thermal performance and structural stability, we undertook:
- Removal of existing floorboards
- Joist levelling and strengthening works
- Installation of 80mm foil-back insulation between joists
- Installation of moisture-resistant chipboard flooring
- Underfloor heating installation to the Utility WC
- Installation of laminate flooring with high-performance underlay
- Replacement skirtings throughout
These works significantly enhanced comfort, durability and energy efficiency.
Bathroom Installation & Drainage Works
Upstairs, the project included full bathroom reconfiguration:
- Removal of the existing suite and wall tiles
- New drainage run installation
- Installation of new external manhole
- Soil stack replacement
- Formation of new bathroom entrance wall
- Installation of new bathroom suite (design and specification confirmed with client)
- Electrical upgrades to bedroom and bathroom
Drainage and structural alterations ensured the new bathroom layout functioned efficiently and complied with current standards.
New Boiler Installation & Heating Upgrades
To modernise the property’s heating system, we allowed for:
- Removal of the existing boiler
- Installation of a new boiler in the attic space
- New flue installation through the roof
Relocating the boiler improved space efficiency and supported the updated plumbing configuration.
Plastering, Carpentry & Finishing Works
Following structural and service installations, we completed:
- Full plaster skim to kitchen, conservatory, family room and upper rooms
- Installation of new door sets
- Skirting and architrave replacements
- Boxing-in works to bathroom
- Decoration and making good
- Waste management and site clearance throughout
The finishing stage unified the new and existing areas to create a cohesive result across both floors.

Project Management and Delivery
This project was delivered as a fully coordinated programme of works, combining structural alterations, roofing, plumbing, heating, electrical and finishing trades under one contract. Careful sequencing was essential, particularly where structural openings, drainage installation and boiler relocation overlapped with floor upgrades and kitchen preparation.
Regular communication ensured design elements, bathroom specifications and kitchen coordination progressed smoothly alongside construction. Waste management, material scheduling and trade coordination were carefully managed to minimise disruption and maintain programme efficiency throughout the build.
The Result
The completed North Road renovation has transformed a compartmentalised and thermally inefficient property into a cohesive, modern home. The former conservatory is now a fully insulated and integrated living space, the kitchen and family areas flow seamlessly, and the new bathroom and heating system provide improved performance and comfort.
Upgraded floors, insulation and structural reconfiguration have enhanced both practicality and long-term efficiency, delivering a well-balanced home that feels brighter, warmer and significantly more functional for everyday living.
